Sexuality & Gender
In Germany, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities are welcome and have equal rights. This means that no one may be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender (Anti-Discrimination Act).
For example, homosexual people can receive asylum in Germany if they are persecuted in their country of origin because of their sexual orientation.
People of all sexual orientations and gender identities are also welcome in Bremen and Bremerhaven. No one may be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender. All places and services are open to everyone. In addition, there are counselling centres, contact points and meeting places that can support you with questions about sexuality or gender identity. One example is the “Rat und Tat Zentrum”. In this section you will find some of these services as well as answers to further questions.
